Type “Q:Win32installWORDPROOFFICE2K.EXE” (without quotes) in the box provided and click “Okay” (or hit “Enter”).

Follow the instructions through a series of “Windows Installer” dialog boxes that appear, by clicking 'Next' when prompted after each box.

Type in your name initials, organization (optional) and the 25-digit product code key that came with your copy of Word 2000. Choose “Next.”

Read the “Microsoft Office 2000 Ready to Install” user license agreement dialogue box and choose the “Customize” selection.

Click “Next” in the Microsoft Office 2000 Installation Location” dialog box that appears. The default location is 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft Office' directory. Clicking “Next” accepts this location, unless you want to choose a different location. Don’t do so.
Step 7
Select the features you want to install--in this case, “Microsoft Word for Windows.”
Wait while the installation dialog boxes download the program. When the dialog box “Installer Information” appears, click “Yes” to restart your computer and complete the installation.
Tips
- If you somehow have erased your version of Word 2000 that you installed with a Microsoft Works Suite package, insert Disk 2 into your CD drive, open the CD and click “Setup'. The MS Works Suite dialog box appears. Choose the programs you want installed (Word, Works, Money, etc.) and hit “Enter.” Follow the resulting dialog boxes (again, clicking on 'Next' at the end of each box). You’ll need to reboot to complete the installation.
- If you don’t have a copy of Word 2000, plenty of websites can download it. Most of them are free. Read the system requirements before downloading (most sites provide that information at the download site).
Warning
- Don’t confuse the 25-character product code for Word 2000 with the 25-character code on the back of your hard drive. They are different.
